The Defense Department has identified the following US service members who were killed recently in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Army Sergeant Adam W. Estep, 23, of Campbell, Calif., on April 29 in Baghdad from a rocket-propelled grenade attack. Assigned to Second Battalion, Fifth Infantry Regiment, First Cavalry Division, based at Fort Hood, Texas.

Marine Corporal Scott M. Vincent, 21, of Bokoshe, Okla., and Marine Corporal Joshua S. Wilfong, 22, of Walker, W.Va., on April 30 as a result of hostile action in Anbar Province, Iraq. Vincent was assigned to Second Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, Second Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; Wilfong to Second Combat Engineer Battalion, Second Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune.

Army Specialist Phillip L. Witkowski, 24, of Fredonia, N.Y., on May 1 from noncombat injuries in Kandahar, Afghanistan. Assigned to Seventh Field Artillery, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Honolulu.

Army Staff Sergeant Oscar D. Vargas-Medina, 32, of Chicago, and Army Specialist Ramon C. Ojeda, 22, of Ramona, Calif., on May 1 in Amarah, Iraq, when their convoy was attacked. Assigned to the 84th Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Honolulu.

Army Sergeant Joshua S. Ladd, 20, of Port Gibson, Miss., on May 1 in Mosul, Iraq, after his convoy vehicle was hit by an explosive device. Assigned to National Guard's 367th Maintenance Company, DeKalb, Miss.

Army Captain John E. Tipton, 32, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., on May 2 in Anbar Province, Iraq, after an explosion. Headquarters Company, First Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Army Staff Sergeant Todd E. Nunes, 29, of Chapel Hill, Tenn., on May 2 in Kirkuk, after his convoy was attacked with explosive devices and small-arms fire. Assigned to First Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Div., Schofield Barracks, Honolulu.

Army Specialist Ervin Caradine Jr., 33, of Memphis and Army Private Jeremy L. Drexler, 23, of Topeka, Kan., on May 2 in Baghdad after their convoy was hit by an explosive device. Assigned to 91st Engineer Battalion, First Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Army Staff Sergeant Erickson H. Petty, 28, of Fort Gibson, Okla., on May 3 in Salman Al Habb, Iraq, in a small-arms fire attack. Assigned to Headquarters Company, First Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment, First Armored Division, Smith Barracks, Baumholder, Germany.

Marine Gunnery Sergeant Ronald E. Baum, 38, of Hollidaysburg, Pa., on May 3 due to hostile action in Anbar Province, Iraq. Assigned to Second Intelligence Battalion, Second Marine Division, Second Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Army Private First Class Jesse R. Buryj, 21, of Canton, Ohio, on Wednesday in Karbala, Iraq, after a motor vehicle accident. Assigned to the 66th Military Police Company, Fort Lewis, Wash.

The following five sailors died May 2 in Anbar Province, Iraq, as a result of hostile fire: Petty Officer Second Class Michael C. Anderson, 36, of Daytona, Fla.; Petty Officer Second Class Trace W. Dossett, 37, of Orlando, Fla.; Petty Officer Second Class Scott R. Mchugh, 33, of Boca Raton, Fla.; Petty Officer Second Class Robert B. Jenkins, 35, of Stuart, Fla.; and Petty Officer Third Class Ronald A. Ginther, 37, of Auburndale, Fla. All were assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 14, Jacksonville, Fla.

The following four soldiers drowned May 3 in Balad, Iraq, after a motor vehicle accident: Army First Lieutenant Christopher J. Kenny, 32, of Miami; Army Sergeant Marvin R. Sprayberry, III, 24, of Tehachapi, Calif.; Army Sergeant Gregory L. Wahl, 30, of Salisbury, N.C.; and Army Private First Class Lyndon A. Marcus Jr., 21, of Long Beach, Calif. All were assigned to the Fourth Cavalry Regiment, First Infantry Division, Vilseck, Germany.
